MSU Bozeman History. Montana State University was founded in 1893 under the original name of the "Agricultural College of the State of Montana.” Later, MSU's name changed to "Montana College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts," to include increased technical programs at the school. By the 1920, MSU Bozeman was being referred to as MSC (Montana State College). It wasn’t until July 1, 1965 that MSU Bozeman came to be called “Montana State University.” [Top]

Montana State University Athletics. MSU athletic teams go by the nickname “the Bobcats,” and have competed and won championships in many sports. Montana State University has won the men’s rodeo championships multiple times. Currently, MSU Bobcats compete in the following sports: Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Skiing, Women's Volleyball, Women's Tennis, Men's Tennis, Track & Field, and Women’s Golf.
